چکیده

Background: We aimed to determine the expression of two neuropeptides, neuropeptide Y (NPY) and vasoactive intestine peptide (VIP), in the pathological tissues of congenital pseudarthrosis of the tibia (CPT) patients for understanding the etiology and pathogenesis of CPT. Methods: Periosteum and bone specimens from 20 CPT patients were studied, in comparison to 20 normal periosteum and bone tissues as control. Immunohistochemistry staining to determine the expression of NPY and VIP was performed and the differences between in the CPT and control groups were compared. Results: NPY was expressed at blood vessel wall and periphery of vessels in periosteum and bones. NPY expression levels were higher in periosteum of CPT than that in control group. NPY was not expressed in bones of CPT and control groups. VIP was expressed both in periosteum and bone tissues. The levels of VIP expression in CPT periosteum were significantly less than those in the control group. Conclusion: VIP expression was significantly higher in osteoclasts of CPT than those of control. Abnormal expression of NPY and VIP in CPT tissues may be a causal factor of CPT.

Pigment epithelium-derived factor: clinical significance in estrogen-dependent tissues and its potential in cancer therapy

Pigment epithelium-derived factor (PEDF) is a glycoprotein that belongs to the family of non-inhibitory serpins. The broad spectrum of PEDF biological activity is evident when considering its effects in promoting cell survival and proliferation, as well as its antiangiogenic, antitumor, and anti-metastatic properties. Although the structural domains of the PEDF gene that mediate such diverse ef...

Synthesis, labeling and quality control of a new Neuropeptide Y analogue for diagnosis of breast tumors

Introduction: Over expression of selected peptide receptors in human tumors has been shown to represent clinically relevant targets for cancer diagnosis and therapy. The aim of this work was to investigate Neuropeptide Y (NPY) as a new radiopharmaceutical for diagnosis of breast cancer. Methods: A neuropeptide Y analogues with Y1 receptor preference and agonistic p...

The effect of human wharton’s jelly-derived mesenchymal stem cells on MC4R, NPY, and LEPR gene expression levels in rats with streptozotocin-induced diabetes

Objective(s): Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune disease resulting from inflammatory destruction of islets β-cells. Nowadays, progress in cell therapy, especially mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) proposes numerous potential remedies for T1D. We aimed to investigate the combination therapeutic effect of these cells with insulin and metformin on neuropeptide Y, melanoco...

Changes in vasoactive intestinal peptide, pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide and neuropeptide Y-ergic structures of the enteric nervous system in the carcinoma of the human large intestine.

This investigation was aimed at immunohistochemical analysis of potential changes in the enteric nervous system caused by cancer of the large intestine. In this purpose, neurons and nerve fibers of intestinal plexuses containing neuropeptides: vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP), pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide (PACAP) and neuropeptide Y (NPY), in pathologically changed part ...

The effect of intracerebroventricular administration of neuropeptide Y on reproductive axis function in the male Wistar rats: Involvement of hypothalamic KiSS1/GPR54 system

Several studies have shown that neuropeptide Y (NPY) is considered to be one of the key regulators of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis in the mammals. Also, kisspeptin is a powerful upstream regulator of gonadotropin-releasing hormone neurons in the hypothalamus. The present study aims to investigate the effects of the intracerebroventricular (ICV) injection of NPY and BIBP3226 (NPY rece...
